MacSlash - Resolved
MacSlash has been re-established at http://www.macslash.org/.
It turns out that they let their domain expire because they did not receive expiration notices. The moment the domain expired, Vicente Peiro Crespo leapt in and registered it for himself.
The administrative e-mail account for MacSlash was a mac.com e-mail address and Apple has spam filters on at Mac.com. Dotster, the registrar for MacSlash, has one of the filtered domains. As a result, the e-mail notifications for the domain renewal were lost.
So, there is some culpability on the part of the MacSlash admins for having failed to renew their domain on time. There is also some culpability on the part of Apple for not disclosing that Mac.com e-mail is filtered. Finally, there's a lot of culpability on the part of Vicente Peiro Crespo, who appears to be a cybersquatter.
If you would like to remind Apple that they need to disclose their spam filtering policies, you can do it via This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or at the iTools feedback page.
There's more information at MacSlash.
